Breaking News: Opposition Questions Spending Rs 200 Crore on Miss World Amid Financial Crisis
In a recent development, Telangana’s opposition party Bharat Rashtra Samithi has raised concerns over Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s revelations about a Rs 71,000 revenue shortfall. The opposition party pointed out that the state is facing financial constraints, with barely enough funds to cover salaries and no money for capital expenditures. The party questioned the government’s decision to allocate Rs 200 crore for hosting the Miss World pageant.
Protests in the Assembly
During the annual budget reading in the Assembly, opposition lawmakers protested against the government’s financial priorities. They highlighted the impact of a “Congress-made drought” by carrying dried crops and demanded Rs 25,000 per acre for affected farmers instead of spending on a beauty pageant.
Criticism from Opposition Leader
BRS leader KT Rama Rao criticized the Congress government for allocating public funds to host the Miss World pageant while facing allegations of irregularities in the Formula-E race scam. He questioned the logic behind spending crores on a beauty contest while prosecuting him for a much smaller amount.
Accusations and Counter-Claims
The political feud escalated with accusations from both sides. KTR accused the Congress of mismanaging state finances and creating a disconnect between progress claims and ground realities. In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accused his predecessor of bankrupting Telangana and leaving behind a massive public debt.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka assured that the state is working to address financial backlogs and has already settled Rs 10,000 crore in dues. This controversy comes at a time when India is preparing to host the Miss World pageant for the second consecutive year.
