Hafizul Hassan Clarifies Controversial Statement on “Shariat First, then Constitution”
Jharkhand Minister Hafizul Hassan addressed the media on Monday to clarify his recent controversial statement about prioritizing “Shariat first, then Constitution.” He explained that his words were misinterpreted and taken out of context.
Mr. Hassan emphasized that he did not refer to himself (“I”) but used the term “hum” (we) in his statement. He stressed that as a minister, he upholds the Constitution and operates within its framework.
Defending his stance, Mr. Hassan highlighted that while Shariat holds significance for many individuals, it does not override the Constitution. He compared it to people holding Lord Hanuman in their hearts, clarifying that his statement was misinterpreted.
The Minister urged the public to understand the full context of his remarks and reiterated his commitment to abiding by the Constitution in his role.
His comments have stirred a political controversy, with demands for action from various quarters, including Arjun Ram Meghwal, who strongly condemned the alleged remarks on Ambedkar Jayanti.
State BJP president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi called for explanations from the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha over Minister Hassan’s statements. He criticized the parties for allegedly disrespecting the Constitution.
Marandi demanded clarification and the removal of the Minister from the Cabinet, accusing the Congress and JMM of prioritizing Shariat over the Constitution.
