New Delhi:

Breaking News: India Press Live reports that Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has spoken out about the strained relationship between China and India. Jaishankar emphasized that the events of 2020 were not the right way to address issues between the two countries.

Jaishankar acknowledged that there will continue to be challenges in the future between India and China, but he believes that these issues can be resolved without escalating into conflict.

In a recent conversation with the non-profit Asia Society, Jaishankar highlighted the evolution of ties between India and China. He mentioned that after China’s unilateral actions in eastern Ladakh in 2020, which led to a military clash and standoff, the relationship between the two nations deteriorated significantly.

Since October 2024, efforts have been made to improve the relationship between India and China. Jaishankar stated that steps are being taken to repair the damage caused by the events of 2020.

The actions taken by China in 2020 and the subsequent military standoff created a sense of betrayal and deep distrust in India. This led to a surge in anti-China sentiment across the country, impacting various aspects of the relationship between the two nations.

After numerous rounds of talks at diplomatic and military levels, an agreement was reached in October 2024 to return to the status quo that existed before 2020. This understanding formed the basis for a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Russia.

India and China share a border of over 4,400 km, divided into the Line of Actual Control and the MacMohan Line. The LAC spans across Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, while the MacMohan Line runs through Arunachal Pradesh.
