Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, on April 6 to offer prayers at the Ramanathswamy Temple on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navmi. During his visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate the new Pamban Bridge.

New Pamban Bridge to Replace Old Bridge

The new Pamban Bridge will replace the old bridge, which was built in 1914 and closed in 2022 due to corrosion issues. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had previously shared on social media about “India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge.”

Mr. Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of the new bridge, stating, “Built at a cost of Rs 535 crore by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), the bridge spans over 2.5 km and is designed to accommodate faster trains and increased traffic. The New Pamban Bridge not only serves a functional purpose but also symbolizes progress and connectivity through modern engineering.”

India-Bangladesh Relations

On a separate note, President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi extended greetings to Bangladesh on the occasion of the country’s National Day. President Murmu emphasized the multi-faceted relationship between India and Bangladesh, spanning various areas of cooperation such as trade, connectivity, development, education, and cultural exchanges.

PM Modi echoed similar sentiments in his message to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, highlighting the shared history and sacrifices that have strengthened the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

The National Day of Bangladesh, observed on March 26, marks the declaration of independence from Pakistan in 1971.
