AAP Fishing for Strong Candidates Ahead of 2025 Delhi Polls
The Aam Aadmi Party is on the lookout for “strong candidates” from the Congress to contest in the 2025 Delhi elections, according to sources. The party’s main goal is to prevent the Congress from making a comeback in the city, despite being allies at the national level.
Arvind Kejriwal Takes Charge
Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of AAP, will personally oversee the party’s campaign for a third consecutive win in the Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal, who recently got bail in a liquor policy scam case, will be closely managing the re-election strategy.
The party has already released its first list of 11 candidates, with three leaders from the Congress and three from the BJP making the cut. Kejriwal is also evaluating the performance of all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi and considering changes to counter any anti-incumbency sentiment.
Several sitting MLAs have been dropped from the first list, including Gulab Singh, Ritu Raj Jha, and Abdul Rehman, who have been replaced by new faces from different parties. Survey teams have been deployed to gather feedback from each constituency and identify potential candidates.
Kejriwal’s Battle Cry
Kejriwal has described the upcoming election as a ‘dharamyudh‘ or battle for justice, drawing parallels to the epic Mahabharata. He has promised to address issues like inflated electricity and water bills and has vowed to fight against the BJP, likening them to the Kauravas.
The AAP faces tough challenges in the 2025 election, with criticism from both the BJP and Congress on various issues, including air quality, infrastructure, and alleged corruption scandals. The party has also been accused of overspending on renovations to the Chief Minister’s residence.
Recently, the BJP staged a protest outside the Chief Minister’s bungalow, known as the ‘sheeshmahal‘, led by former AAP leader Kailash Gahlot. The AAP has also been under fire for a liquor policy scam, which resulted in the arrest of key party members.
Despite these challenges, Kejriwal remains determined to lead his party to victory in the upcoming election, believing that the support of the people will help them prevail against all odds.
