Breaking News: BJP Aims for Big Win in Jammu and Kashmir Elections

BJP Hopes to Win 66 of 90 Seats

PM, Amit Shah At Party Panel Meet To Decide On J&K Poll Candidates

The BJP is making an all-out effort to fend off the challenge from a resurgent Congress.

New Delhi: The BJP is determined to claim victory in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly elections. According to sources from India Press Live, the BJP aims to secure 66 out of the 90 available seats. This revelation came after a crucial meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) held on Sunday.

The CEC met to finalize the list of BJP candidates for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir – the first such elections in a decade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and other key members, including Home Minister Amit Shah, engaged in detailed discussions with party leaders from the Union Territory.

Narrowing Down the Candidates

Last week, local BJP leaders held a comprehensive meeting with Mr. Nadda and Mr. Shah. The focus was on narrowing down the list of potential candidates and devising effective electoral strategies. Despite not forming a strong local pre-poll alliance this time, sources indicated that the BJP plans to extend support to regional parties and Independent candidates in the coming elections.

Congress Slams BJP

Earlier today, Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala criticized the BJP for its remarks about the Congress’s alliance with Omar Abdullah’s National Conference. Accusing the BJP of double standards, Mr. Surjewala highlighted that the BJP had previously allied with both the National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Have we ever questioned the BJP about their alliances? Then why should they question us about ours?” Mr. Surjewala stated, recalling the BJP’s past collaborations with the National Conference and PDP.

BJP’s Historical Context in Jammu and Kashmir

In the previous 2014 elections, when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state, the BJP secured 25 seats and formed a coalition government with the PDP. However, this partnership dissolved in 2018, leading to President’s Rule in the region. Subsequently, in 2019, Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked, and the state was divided into two Union Territories.

This time around, the BJP is gearing up to counter the challenge posed by a revitalized Congress and its ally, the National Conference.

Polling Phases and Dates

The 90-member assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to take place in three phases – on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will occur on October 4. The electoral battle is expected to be fierce as different political forces vie for control in the region.

Looking Ahead: Haryana Elections

The BJP’s next major event will be the CEC meeting on August 29, where the party will strategize for the Haryana polls. Much like in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP in Haryana is preparing to face a formidable challenge from the Congress. The BJP has been in power in Haryana since 2014, and with the upcoming elections, the political landscape might see significant shifts.
