Breaking News: Tragic Suicide of IIIT Allahabad Student
A first-year student from IIIT Allahabad allegedly died by suicide in his hostel campus on Saturday night, shocking the community.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in Jhalwa area of Prayagraj, just a day before the student, Rahul Madala Chaitanya from Telangana, was to celebrate his 21st birthday.
Police mentioned that no suicide note was found, but initial investigations indicated that Rahul was distressed after failing an examination. The institute has formed a committee to investigate and submit a report within seven days.
Rahul jumped from the fifth floor of his hostel, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. It was apparent that he had been upset for a few days following his exam failure.
Rahul’s Last Message to Mother
Rahul’s family arrived from Telangana on Sunday, and his mother Swarnalatha revealed his last message, expressing concern for his younger brother and father.
Swarnalatha was alarmed by the message and tried to contact Rahul, but his phone was off. Upon reaching the campus, she learned about the tragic incident. The institute had not informed them earlier about Rahul skipping classes for six months.
A Promising Student
Rahul had secured an AIR of 52 in the JEE Mains exam under the EWS category. Despite his inability to speak, he would communicate with his mother through video calls.
His father runs a tiffin business, and Rahul was the elder of two sons. Swarnalatha described his daily routine and habits, indicating no signs of distress.
Students protested the incident, and authorities assured legal action and maintaining peace at the site.
Probe and Support
IIIT Allahabad has initiated a thorough investigation with a three-member committee and recommended a sub-committee involving students to address the matter.
The institute expressed readiness to provide emotional and psychological support to those affected by the tragedy.
