Breaking News: NIA to Collect Voice Sample of Tahawwur Rana in 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has brought Pakistani-Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana into its custody to gather more evidence in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case. The agency is planning to collect Rana’s voice sample to match it with call records and determine if he was involved in giving instructions for the deadly attacks that took place in November 2008.

Obtaining Consent for Voice Sample

In order to take Rana’s voice sample, the NIA will need his consent. If he refuses, the agency can seek permission from the court to proceed with the collection. Refusal to provide the sample may have consequences for Rana during the trial phase, as it will be mentioned in the chargesheet.

Once permission is granted, experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory will visit the NIA headquarters to take the voice samples in a controlled environment.

Rana, who was extradited from the US and brought to New Delhi, is currently being interrogated at the NIA headquarters. The agency is focusing on unraveling his connections with individuals in Dubai before the Mumbai attacks and the suspicious activities related to his office lease in Mumbai, which was used as a cover by David Headley for reconnaissance.

Key Areas of Investigation

The 18-day questioning by the NIA will also delve into the potential involvement of Pakistani nationals like Ilyas Kashmiri and Abdur Rehman in the 26/11 attacks. Rana may also be questioned about the roles of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Sajid Majeed Mir in the planning and execution of the attacks.

Rana has provided details about his background in Pakistan, his immigration to Canada, and the establishment of his immigration and travel agency in Chicago. However, during the initial interrogation, he has been hesitant to share extensive information.

Despite claiming difficulty in recalling specific events, Rana has confirmed his presence in Mumbai a week before the attacks. David Headley, another key figure in the case, was previously questioned by the NIA and later convicted in the US for his involvement in the attacks.

As the investigation progresses, the NIA aims to uncover more details about Rana’s connections and potential role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
