Refuting Claims of BJP, DK Shivakumar Ready to Retire from Politics if Accusations Proven True
DK Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, has denied the opposition BJP’s claim that he suggested changing the Constitution to allow religion-based reservations. He stated that he is willing to retire from politics if these accusations are proven true.
Accusing the BJP of spreading false claims due to their disagreement with his political views, DK Shivakumar mentioned that the Congress high command had reviewed the video of his statement on a news program. In the video, he defended the government’s decision to introduce a 4% reservation for Muslims in public contracts and did not make any remarks about amending the Constitution.
Addressing reporters, DK Shivakumar challenged the BJP to verify his statements and stated, “I’m ready to retire from politics if I have ever spoken about changing the Constitution. Will they (the BJP) accept this challenge? Let them verify where I said it.”
In response to reports of BJP planning to protest by waving black flags at his events, DK Shivakumar remarked, “They should go ahead. They have a special affection for me, which is why they do this. They can’t sleep without taking my name or creating issues related to me. So, let them continue.”
Dismissing the BJP’s allegations as baseless, he urged the media and political observers to watch his full interview to understand the context of his statements. He affirmed that the Congress is dedicated to upholding the Constitution and accused the BJP of trying to divert attention from important issues by creating a uproar in Parliament.
Regarding allegations of phone tapping raised by Congress members and opposition leaders, DK Shivakumar referenced previous instances of alleged phone tapping under past governments, including against prominent seers. He called for the release of the CBI probe report on those matters before discussing the current allegations.
On Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna’s reported “honeytrap” attempt, DK Shivakumar expressed confidence in State Home Minister G Parameshwara to conduct a thorough investigation and deliver justice to those affected.
