Jammu And Kashmir Polls: Congress Announces 1st List Of 9 Candidates

The Congress on Monday came out with a big announcement. They’ve released their first batch of nine candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This election will happen in three phases, and it’s going to be quite the event. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who is a general secretary in the party, will stand for the Dooru seat. Vikar Rasool Wani, who was once the chief of the state unit, is running from Banihal.

This decision came just after the Congress made a deal with their ally, the National Conference (NC). The two parties came to an agreement on seat-sharing. The NC will be contesting 51 seats, while Congress will stand for 32 seats during these elections.

### Seat Allocation for Allies

In addition to their own seats, they have also set aside one seat each for the CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP). This was announced during a joint press conference held at the residence of Farooq Abdullah, the NC president, in Srinagar. They spent an entire day negotiating to reach this agreement. Interestingly, they also mentioned that there will be “friendly contests” for five seats in the Union territory.
