Breaking News: Kannada Actor Darshan to Be Transferred After Picture Shows VIP Treatment in Jail

Actor Darshan To Be Shifted After Row Over VIP Treatment In Bengaluru Jail

Actor Darshan, seen in a grey T-Shirt in the viral pic.

Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, famed in Kannada cinema, has been ordered to shift from Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru to the Bellary jail. The decision came after a controversial photograph surfaced online, raising a storm about preferential treatment received by the actor.

In the viral image, Darshan is seen casually interacting with three inmates. He is holding a cup in his right hand and a cigarette in the other, seemingly engrossed in the scene before him. This has sparked suspicions about whether the actor was benefiting from special privileges during his incarceration.

Details of the Viral Image

The image prominently features Darshan, identifiable by his grey t-shirt. He is accompanied by three others: Wilson Garden Naga, gangster Naga, and Nagaraj – who is both Darshan’s manager and co-accused. Another inmate, Kulla Seena, is also seen in the photograph.

The faces in the picture reveal a hint of amusement, and the relaxed environment suggests something more than standard prison treatment.

Shifting Orders and Inquiry

A court in Bengaluru was quick to act following the online uproar. Considering the widespread allegations of VIP treatment, the court mandated an inquiry and directed the transfer of Darshan. Apart from Darshan, other accused individuals in the case will also be moved to different jails across Karnataka. His girlfriend, Pavitra Gowda, who faces charges in the same murder case, will stay in Bangalore jail.

The High Court’s Stand on Inmate Rights

Back in July, the Karnataka High Court emphasized that every citizen, including undertrial prisoners, deserves a nutritious diet. This should be the case regardless of a person’s social or financial status. This ruling came as a result of a petition filed by Darshan himself.

Darshan had challenged a magistrate’s decision, which denied his plea for home-cooked meals, better bedding, and the use of personal cutlery while in prison.

Nature of the Murder Case

The ongoing drama traces back to June when Darshan was arrested. He was allegedly involved in the murder of Renukaswamy, an actor’s fan who had reportedly sent inappropriate messages to Darshan’s co-star and girlfriend, Pavithra Gowda. This incident didn’t just endanger Renukaswamy’s life but spun into a full-blown scandal. His body was discovered near a stormwater drain adjacent to an apartment in Sumanahalli on June 9.

Today, 17 individuals, including Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, remain in judicial custody, suspected of involvement in Renukaswamy’s death.

Demands for Further Investigation

Renukaswamy’s father, Kashinath S Shivanagowdru, is seeking justice and has called for a CBI probe. He demands stringent punishment for those implicated in his son’s murder.

Conclusion

The case of Darshan Thoogudeepa is a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding celebrity status and the justice system. With allegations of undue advantages and a prominent murder case in the backdrop, the situation continues to evolve, drawing significant public and media attention. As the judiciary carries forward its probes and decisions, the Kannada film industry and the audience remain on edge, waiting for the next development in this high-profile case.
