Kapil Parmar Makes History for India in Para-Judo
In a monumental achievement, Kapil Parmar, ranked world No.1, became the first Indian ever to secure a medal in para-judo at the Paralympic Games. On Thursday, September 5, the 24-year-old judoka clinched a bronze medal by defeating Brazil’s Elielton Oliveira 10-0 in the men’s para-judo 60kg category at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
Madhya Pradesh’s Star Performer
Parmar, hailing from Sehor, Madhya Pradesh, displayed an exceptional performance. He pulled off a spectacular ippon, the highest score in judo, overpowering his Brazilian opponent in the bronze medal bout held at the Champ-de-Mars Arena. Parmar’s bronze medal takes India’s total medal count at the 17th edition of the Paralympic Games to a historic 25, extending their record.
