IND vs PAK Women’s T20 WC: Real Reason for 3:30 PM Kickoff

by Anubhav Pandey

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revamped the schedule for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. Initially set to take place in Bangladesh, the tournament has now been moved to the UAE due to political unrest in Bangladesh. The major highlight? The much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 6.

Time Clash Raises Eyebrows for India Pakistan Cricket Match

The India-Pakistan face-off will kick off at 3:30 PM IST, which is not the prime time slot for such high-stakes matches. Oddly, the Indian men’s team is also in action on the same day, playing a T20I against Bangladesh at New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior, starting at 7:00 PM IST.

Ensuring Maximum Viewership

The ICC seems to have planned meticulously to avoid any overlap between the India-Pakistan women’s match and the India-Bangladesh men’s T20I. The intention is to ensure that neither game suffers from lower viewership. Given the perennial excitement surrounding an India-Pakistan encounter, the ICC aims to rope in maximum audience for this high-voltage clash.

Other Matches

India’s other matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup are scheduled at more conventional times. Here’s a quick look:

  • October 4: India vs New Zealand at 7:30 PM IST
  • October 6: India vs Pakistan at 3:30 PM IST
  • October 9: India vs Sri Lanka at 7:30 PM IST
  • October 13: India vs Australia at 7:30 PM IST

Competing Matches

Interestingly, there is a schedule clash on October 9 when the India women’s team takes on Sri Lanka at 7:30 PM IST, while the India men’s team will face Bangladesh in their second T20I, also starting at 7:00 PM IST. The ICC hasn’t decided to change the timings for these matches so far.

Broadcast Rights

One crucial aspect to consider is the differing broadcasters for these matches. The Women’s T20 World Cup will be telecasted on Star Sports, while the India vs Bangladesh T20I series will be aired on Sports18. This indicates potential strategic planning to capture diverse sets of audiences for both series.
