US Vice President J D Vance and NSA Michael Waltz to Visit New Delhi on April 21
Exciting news coming up! US Vice President J D Vance and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz are set to visit New Delhi on April 21. This visit highlights the importance of the relationship between the United States and India, especially in the current global scenario where concerns are rising over President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
Separate Visits Planned
Sources have revealed that both Vance and Waltz will be embarking on separate visits to India, with Vance’s visit being a mix of private and official components. On the other hand, Waltz’s visit will focus solely on business as he engages in discussions with Indian counterparts on key issues such as the security situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
During their stay, both Vance and Waltz are expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before he heads off to Saudi Arabia for a two-day visit starting April 22.
Focus on Cooperation
Waltz’s visit will see the unveiling of initiatives for cooperation in high technology, critical minerals, and export controls. Known for his advocacy of strong India-US ties, Waltz’s visit from April 21 to 23 aims to strengthen bilateral relations in various strategic areas.
Meanwhile, Vance, accompanied by Indian-American Second Lady Usha Vance and their children, will be exploring destinations like Shimla, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Delhi during their visit.
Initiatives and Collaborations
The visits by Vance and Waltz come on the heels of US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s recent visit to India. The ongoing cooperation under the India-US TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology) initiative, which replaced the iCET initiative launched during the previous administration, will be a key focus during Waltz’s visit.
With talks scheduled with NSA Ajit Doval and potential meetings with PM Modi and Foreign Minister Jaishankar, Waltz aims to further deepen ties between the two nations in critical technology areas.
Global Trade Concerns
President Trump’s tariff policies have raised concerns of a global trade war, making discussions between India and the US crucial. Plans to negotiate the first tranche of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall 2025 were announced following talks between Modi and Trump in Washington DC earlier this year.
Exciting times lie ahead as the US Vice President and NSA gear up for their visits to India, signaling a strong commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and partnerships.
