Breaking News: Mayawati Slams Rahul Gandhi for Silence on Waqf Bill
In a recent statement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati criticized Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for not addressing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill during a lengthy parliamentary debate. Mayawati expressed her disappointment, stating that it is natural for Muslims and INDIA bloc partners to feel angry and agitated about the issue.
Despite the opposition’s strong objections to the bill, Mayawati questioned the decision of the LoP in Lok Sabha to remain silent on the matter. She emphasized that both the Congress and the BJP have failed to protect the welfare and rights of Dalits, making reservation rights ineffective.
Mayawati urged religious minorities to be cautious of the deceptive tactics employed by these political parties. She highlighted the challenges faced by Bahujans due to the actions of these parties and called for the government to fulfill its constitutional duty towards people’s welfare.
Earlier, Mayawati had urged the Centre to reconsider the provisions of the new Waqf law and temporarily suspend its implementation. She raised concerns about the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Waqf Board under the recently passed Act, questioning its implications.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, received presidential assent on April 5 after heated debates in Parliament. The bill was supported by a majority in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, despite opposition from some members.
It is crucial for political leaders to address the concerns of various communities and uphold the principles of justice and equality in governance. Mayawati’s critique of Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the Waqf Bill highlights the importance of robust parliamentary debates and inclusive decision-making.
