Background on the Delay
Kangana Ranaut has been leaving no stone unturned to ensure her film gets the spotlight it deserves. But now, it looks like she’ll have to momentarily pause her promotional activities. Reports say that the delay in the film’s release is primarily due to issues related to its certification.
Legal Hurdles and Complaints
On August 31, the Punjab and Haryana High Court heard a complaint from two Mohali residents, Gurinder Singh and Jagmohan Singh. They have called for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to revoke the film’s censor certificate. They also demanded that the film undergo a review by prominent Sikh leaders before it hits the theatres.
Calls for Religious Review
Joining the chorus, Bathinda’s MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also voiced her concerns. Speaking at a media interaction in Amritsar, she said, “I haven’t seen the film, but if any party fought the biggest struggle during the Emergency, it was the Shiromani Akali Dal. The late Parkash Singh Badal was the first to lead the movement and get arrested along with others.” She emphasized that Kangana’s “Emergency” must be reviewed by the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) before its global release.
CBFC’s Current Stand
Bollywood Hungama reported that while the CBFC approved the film’s changes, its certification is still pending. Assistant Solicitor General of India, Satya Pal Jain, representing the CBFC, commented, “The certification has not been given yet. It will be awarded following the laws and regulations applicable in this circumstance. If someone has a complaint, it can be sent to the board.”
About the Film
For those not familiar with the buzz, “Emergency” is based on the historical period when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of Emergency in India. Kangana will not only play the lead role but is also directing the film. Alongside her, the movie features Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, and Milind Soman in pivotal roles. Kangana was last seen in the movie “Tejas.” It remains to be seen when the filmmakers will sort out the certification issues to finally bring “Emergency” to the big screen.
What’s Next?
As of now, the film’s release date is uncertain, and all eyes are on the CBFC’s final decision and the court’s ruling. Kangana’s fans and followers are eagerly waiting to see how the situation unfolds. While Kangana has successfully created a buzz around the movie, this delay could affect its initial momentum.
Will “Emergency” clear all its hurdles and make its mark? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story here at India Press Live.
