Breaking News: Authorities have detained 14 individuals in connection with the recent violence in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This brings the total number of arrests to 105, including 10 juveniles. The police have also filed three additional First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the incidents.

The unrest began on March 17, when rumors spread about a sheet with a verse from the Quran being burned during a demonstration by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). This led to widespread stone-pelting and arson in various parts of Nagpur.

Arrests and FIRs

Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singhal confirmed the arrests and stated, “Fourteen accused have been apprehended in connection with the riots. Three new FIRs have been filed.” The decision to lift the curfew in certain areas will be made after a high-level review meeting.

Curfew Partially Lifted

Commissioner Singhal announced that the curfew was partially lifted in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police station limits from 2 p.m. on Thursday for public convenience and law-and-order considerations. In other areas, the curfew was relaxed for two hours to allow residents to purchase essential supplies.

Impact of Violence

The violence resulted in 33 police personnel being injured, including three DCP-rank officers. A case of treason has been lodged against the main accused, Faheem Khan.

Court Remands Suspects

Earlier, a local court in Nagpur remanded 17 individuals arrested in connection with the violence to police custody until Saturday. The court emphasized the severity of the offenses and the evidence presented against the accused.
