New Delhi:

The price of cooking gas, also known as domestic LPG cylinder, has gone up by Rs 50 per cylinder, according to Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. This increase applies to both subsidised and general category customers.

For Ujjawala users, who are poor beneficiaries receiving LPG connection for free, the cost of a 14.2-kg cylinder will now be Rs 553, up from the previous Rs 503 in the national capital. General users will now pay Rs 853 for the same cylinder.

The prices of LPG cylinders vary from state to state due to different tax rates and were last revised in March last year when they were reduced by Rs 100.

Commercial LPG gas cylinder prices were reduced by Rs 41 last week, affecting restaurants, hotels, and other businesses that rely on these cylinders for daily operations.

In addition to the LPG price hike, the government has also raised excise duty on petrol and diesel. However, this increase will not be passed on to consumers and will be absorbed by oil marketing companies.

The excise duty on petrol has been increased to Rs 13 per litre and on diesel to Rs 10 per litre, according to an official order. This change will take effect on the 8th day of April 2025.

Despite the usual practice of passing tax changes on to consumers, there will be no adjustment in the retail selling price of petrol and diesel. The excise hike will be offset by the reduction in retail prices due to the decrease in international oil prices.
