Breaking News: BJP Leading in 6 Out of 9 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Bypolls
New Delhi:
The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in six of the nine Uttar Pradesh Assembly bypolls held this week. This comes as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shows strong control over a state that is crucial to the BJP’s support base in North India.
Current Results
As of 2 pm, the Election Commission reports that the BJP is leading in the Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Phulpur, Katehari, and Majhawan seats. The Rashtriya Lok Dal, an ally of the BJP, leads in Meerapur.
The Samajwadi Party, which had a strong performance in the recent federal elections, is only leading in Karhal and Sishamau.
Key Battles
In Karhal, which is a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav, the party is facing tough competition. The bypolls were triggered after sitting MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha.
In Meerapur, the RLD’s Mithlesh Pal is leading by a significant margin. The BJP is also set to retain seats in Ghaziabad, Khair, and Phulpur.
The BJP is on track to claim the Katehari seat and is leading in Majhawan as well.
Controversy
The bypolls have been marred by allegations of electoral malpractice. Akhilesh Yadav claimed that voters were threatened by police in Muzaffarnagar’s Kakrouli. However, district officials denied these claims.
The Samajwadi Party also accused the police of misbehavior in Meerapur, leading to disruptions in the voting process.
Despite the controversies, the BJP looks set to secure a significant victory in these bypolls.
