The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shaken things up! They’ve just announced the squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and there’s a big change on the horizon. Fatima Sana has been named the new captain, replacing Nida Dar.

Why the Change?

The decision to switch captains seems to be a result of Nida Dar’s struggles in the T20 format. At 37, Nida led the team in 24 matches but only managed to secure victories in nine of those games. The remaining 15 matches under her captaincy were losses, which seems to have prompted the selectors to try a new direction under the youthful leadership of 22-year-old Fatima Sana.

Fatima Sana’s Record

While Fatima may be taking on a significant new role, she doesn’t have much experience as a captain in the T20 format. She has only been a captain twice in ODI matches for Pakistan, winning one and losing the other.

Selectors’ Decision

A unanimous decision was made by the PCB selection committee, composed of Asad Shafiq and Batool Fatima, to give Fatima the reins of the T20 team ahead of this prestigious tournament.

The Squad Lineup

The team selection has largely stayed consistent with those who competed in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, with only a single change. Batter Sadaf Shamas has been added to the World Cup squad, replacing wicketkeeper Najiha Alvi, who will now be a traveling reserve.
