Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar’s movie, The Lady Killer, has now become available on YouTube. This film, directed by Ajay Bahl, is regarded as the biggest box office disaster in the history of Indian cinema. It released in 2025 with a budget of Rs 45 crores but earned less than 1 lakh on the worldwide box office. Here’s a closer look at what went wrong.
The Lady Killer Releases on YouTube
In an unusual turn of events, Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar’s film, The Lady Killer, has been released on YouTube almost a year after its theatrical release. Unlike other films that usually sell their OTT rights for a handsome sum, this movie has been made available online for free.
Reason Why The Lady Killer Flopped
Many people might not even know the name of this film, and there’s a good reason for that. The movie had virtually no promotions and was released on a very limited number of screens. The director confirmed to a movie critic that the actors abruptly left the project, resulting in an incomplete film that lacked a proper climax.
The Film Went Over Budget During the Shoot
The Lady Killer, directed by Ajay Bahl, commenced shooting in April 2022. Reports suggest that the movie, initially budgeted at Rs 45 crores, exceeded its budget which led to massive delays. Eventually, producer Shailesh R Singh decided to cancel the re-shoot. Despite this, the makers unexpectedly released the trailer on October 29 and pushed the film out to select theaters on November 3, but without any promotion.
Interestingly, it’s believed that the rush to release the movie was driven by the fact that its digital rights had already been sold. The makers wanted to meet their OTT release deadline by the end of December. However, this rush clearly backfired as the film ended up becoming an epic failure.
Through this misadventure, The Lady Killer has provided a clear lesson on the importance of promotion, completion, and budgeting in the movie industry. Now available for free on YouTube, the film may still find its audience but will forever be remembered as the biggest flop in Indian cinema history.
